Often many conversations related to Autism lead down a pathological course, almost too analytical for its own good. Creating a sense of separation between "us and them". Whereas, this presentation highlights the basic human condition, especially within the context of hyper-sensitivity, anxiety, and classic "fight or flight" responses at the core. Something we all can relate to. For the best approach to Autism, as well as other neurological responses, may well be the need to first see this as an extension of the human experience, rather than through the lens of a "disease". For compassion and understanding will serve our students best as we create environments supporting their success. This brief presentation will feature research and other science-based evidence at the core. In addition, alternative coping strategies and skill development will be shared for your consideration. This presentation is best for anyone curious about Autism, or works extensively with students on the spectrum. In addition to the presentation, we will spend time sharing ideas and strategies which have been most successful when addressing the ABCs of Autism: Anxiety, Behavior, and Coping Strategies.
